If you setup Animal Shelter Manager (ASM) to import your pets to AdoptaPet (instructions here) and are having errors after the initial 24 hour setup window, mapping is the most common cause.
Mapping Errors
If you received an AutoUpload Error email that is not a photo/video file format or size error, first step is to see if the error is still an issue. Since emails are sent every 12 hours, it may no longer be an issue:
- Click the "Test Import Now" button on your Adopt a Pet AutoUpload settings page.
You can ignore any NOTICE rows. If you see ERROR rows, the most common mapping errors are due to customized breed names or colors. Below are steps to resolve mapping errors, depending on if you are an ShelterManager.com web user, or ASM self-hosted user.
Web Users
ShelterManager.com allows you to select a matching "publisher" item for some of their lookups such as breed, species, and color. The "publisher" is what the breed, species, or color will be mapped to so it can upload to Adopt a Pet. Below is a screenshot of publisher breed:
Once you have updated any errors, please allow up to 12 hours for changes to process.
If you need more help with mapping in ShelterManager.com, please contact Animal Shelter Manager.
Self-Hosted Users
If you are you using the free self-hosted version of Animal Shelter Manager that you downloaded and installed on your computer or server, you will need to edit your mapping file on your computer or server. To map any custom values you are using, you will need to add lines of code.
Animal Shelter Manager offers this tip: "...the first time you run this publisher, it will create a file called 'saveapet mappings.txt' in your .asm folder - this is the mappings file (what becomes the import.cfg sent to Adopt a Pet) and if you wish to translate any of your breeds, species, types or colours to match the Adopt a Pet standard set, you can do it here. The default file created by ASM maps the default ASM lookups to Adopt a Pet."
If you need help with the self-hosted version, you can get free help from other ASM users in their Community Forum.
