Password Safety Guidelines
- Adopt a Pet will never ask for your password, ever.
- Do not give or share your password with anyone!
- Change your passwords regularly. On Adopt a Pet, you can change password by using the "forgot password" link on the correct login page. For shelters and rescues, that login page is https://www.adoptapet.com/account/login/as_publicist That sends a reset password link to your email address.
- Do not use the same password that you use on other sites like email, online shopping, etc.
- When choosing a new password, try to use a combination of letters, numbers and special characters (i.e., %,@,+,#, etc.).
- If you use a shared computer, make sure you log out when you are done working on the site.
Scammers and Phishing
Scammers are everywhere on the internet. They try to trick people into giving up their important account information. Here are a few things you can check:
- Adopt a Pet will never ask you for your Facebook login or other password.
- Legitimate emails from Adopt a Pet will be "from" an email ending in @adoptapet.com or @comms.adoptapet.com or @kinship.co or similar, but can be "spoofed" so do not rely on this as the sole way to verify authenticity.
- Adopt a Pet will never ask you for your password or other sensitive information.
- Changes to your account should always be made on www.adoptapet.com. Make sure you look for the lock in your browser's address bar when you login, indicating that you are on our secure site.
- If you receive an email that you are not sure came from us, you can ask us using the "Email Submit Request" form on our website at https://www.adoptapet.com/contact-us or forward it to us directly at helpdesk@adoptapet.com
