ARCHIVED ANNOUNCEMENT

PAWsite Service Announcement

Adopt-a-Pet.com PAWsites offered a free customizable website based on a template we created for shelters and rescues. Due to the challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets expectations and helpsshelters and rescues in their pet-saving work, we will be shutting down all PAWsites at the end of this year. That means your PAWsite will be deleted on January 1, 2020.

* This will NOT impact any other part of shelter and rescue Adopt-a-Pet.com accounts! Shelters and rescues will still be able to log in and use their main Adopt-a-Pet.com account and have pets listed for adoption there.

* Starting January 1, 2020 all custom PAWsite URLs that were created will automatically redirect to that account's Adopt-a-Pet.com Pet List. That way visitors will still see all that account's adoptable pets, along with the organization's information from their My Shelter/Rescue Info. Admins can edit their My Shelter/Rescue Info here at any time: https://www.adoptapet.com/shelter/shelter_edit_form

Helpful Website and Adoption Application Resources

We surveyed our shelter and rescue users and also heard from some wonderfully helpful shelters and rescues about the resources they use for their website hosting, creation, and adoption application forms online. This is not an exhaustive list! We are sharing their suggestions below as a helpful resource.

Wix.com - an easy-to-use website creation service, with a free option and a built-in shelter/rescue template. See the sample website we created at https://adoptapetdotcom.wixsite.com/test
You can add your My Pet List to Wix using their Add to Site > Embed > Custom Embeds > Embed a widget and use the custom HTML from your Adopt-a-Pet.com Portable Pet List

Jotform.com  - the first option is free if you receive under 100 applications a month, and lets you create your adoption application with as many questions at you like.

Dreamhost.com - A rescue volunteer says, "501c3 orgs can get DreamHost for free, which includes WordPress for free, which gives them tons more templates than Wix. All they have to buy is the domain name (NameCheap) and link it to DreamHost. DreamHost support is excellent. I really love using this service and recommend it to all of the 501c3 rescues I volunteer with."

...

We are here to help you however we can with this change! If you have questions please click the blue help question mark on this page to fill out the form to contact our helpdesk.

I've used both Wix and Dreamhost/Wordpress. I'm the person who recommended Dreamhost for this article. If any small rescues need assistance with getting your site set up on DreamHost/WordPress plus buying a domain name via NameCheap, feel free to email me at happydogrescue on gmail and I'll see if I can help you streamline the process. Just mention in the email that you saw this message in the adoptapet zendesk article about the PawSites going away so I'll have a clue how you found me.
