How do you screen rescues?

Organizations must pass our initial screening to open an animal welfare organization account, in addition to agreeing to comply with Rules for using our service, presented before they can access the sign up page. Adopt-a-Pet.com evaluates each new organization account sign up request individually. Screening requirements vary based on the type of organization and the information provided on their sign up form. We do our best to make sure every rescue group, animal shelter, government agency or veterinary office with a pet adoption program is legitimate and in compliance with our rules for using our service before approving their application.

Adopt-a-Pet.com isn't an enforcement agency, like animal control or the FDA. Since situations and organizations can change quickly, we encourage all adopters to check up on any organization they will be doing business with online.

* If you are concerned about the well-being of animals in the care of a shelter, rescue or private owner, please call your local animal control or authorities immediately.
* If you feel threatened or at risk, please contact your local police immediately.

Our review committee takes all animal welfare complaints seriously.  If you have serious concerns about an organization on Adopt-a-Pet.com, please email info@adoptapet.com the reasons for your concern, along with a link to the organization on our website.

Thank you for caring!
